This course debunks many of the myths of what choreography is and gives you a better understanding of what it takes to make choreography impactful and memorable, on top of giving you tools to navigate a choreographic career.

CONTROL YOUR OWN SCHEDULE

Live class sessions are once a month. In between classes you will have assignments to finish in the three weeks following each class. 


The assignments will involve creating choreography, watching videos of established choreographers, creating presentations, and written analyses.


Apart from the once a month class on video conference, YOU CONTROL YOUR SCHEDULE as you see fit for the assignments.

Throughout the course, you will be assessed in a variety of different ways including but not limited to written assignments, choreographing your own original pieces, and through participating in webinars. 


In all units there is an emphasis on getting students to choreograph better through understanding objectives, increasing confidence and lowering barriers to success through the learning of skills to keep audiences engaged.

There are three units available - Unit 1, 2 and 3. All candidates must commence at Unit 1. Upon completion of this unit, you will be invited to commence Unit 2 and then to Unit 3. All three units and their respective final exams must be completed to gain the Diploma in Choreography certificate and qualification. 


Note that  Unit 3 is primarily focused on learning the industry internationally.

COURSE DURATION

Pre-Professional & Professional (18+)

Unit 1: Part Time, Online, 7 months (approx), 75 Guided Learning Hours (minimum) includes webinars and own practice/learning/choreographing. 
Unit 2: Part Time, Online, 7 months (approx), 75 Guided Learning Hours (minimum) includes webinars and own practice/learning/choreographing. 
Unit 3: Part Time, Online, 7 months (approx), 75 Guided Learning Hours (minimum) includes webinars and own practice/learning/choreographing. 
Qualifications: 3x CPD certificates for each unit completed, and an I-PATH Diploma in Choreography diploma.

Pre-University (ages 15 to 18)

Unit 1: Part Time, Online, 6 months (approx), 70 Guided Learning Hours (minimum) includes webinars and own practice/learning/choreographing. 
Unit 2: Part Time, Online, 6 months (approx), 70 Guided Learning Hours (minimum) includes webinars and own practice/learning/choreographing. 
Unit 3: Part Time, Online, 6 months (approx), 70 Guided Learning Hours (minimum) includes webinars and own practice/learning/choreographing. 
Qualifications: 3x CPD certificates for each unit completed, and an I-PATH Diploma in Choreography diploma. 

FEE & PAYMENT OPTIONS

Tuition

Fees can be paid in the following way (note that exchange rates vary constantly, so equivalencies are approximate.  To get current exchange rates in real time, visit xe.com):


Tuition plus the enrolment deposit covers:

  • One Unit + Final Assessment Fee + Certificate
  • All Units + Final Assessment + Certificate


NOTE: The £50 non-refundable enrolment deposit covers blockchain certificate, diploma, and exam fees. The £300 (GBP) tuition fee (one Unit) will be invoiced for by Choreography Online. 

One Lump Sum Payment

£300 per unit, or

£900 for the entire course (all 3 units), plus

£50 enrolment deposit for all Unit Final Exams + blockchain certificates & course diploma

Monthly Instalments

If paying in monthly Instalments the total price per unit comes to approx. £315 total per unit:


£45 monthly (Paid over 21 months if taking the entire course).  The enrolment deposit of £50 covers the exam and certificate fees, and is not applied to the course tuition.

THE TEACHERS

Rick Tjia: Pre-Professional & Professional Cohorts (18+)

Passionate about dance since his childhood, Rick has studied and worked professionally in Classical Ballet, Jazz, Modern, Contemporary Dance, Hip Hop and Tango.


As principal dancer with La La La Human Steps for eight years, Rick toured and performed in over 25 countries and 100 different cities. He has also worked in the movie industry in Los Angeles as both a dancer and actor. 


In 2004 he joined the Cirque du Soleil Casting Team as an Artistic Talent Scout for all styles of dance, where he ran auditions, evaluated demos, and cast numerous running shows and new creations over the course of 16 years. He is also a dance and acrobatic choreographer, having choreographed for Utah Ballet, Dance Alive! National Ballet, and various independent projects over the course of his career. He was also one of the original acrobatic choreographers on Cirque du Soleil's big top touring show 'Volta'. 


In addition to La La La Human Steps, Rick has performed with companies such as Ballet Austin, Sacramento Ballet, Boston Ballet, and Dance Alive! National Ballet, and explored dance through several independent projects of his own. He has worked with numerous choreographers, including Edouard Lock, Twyla Tharp, Tom Pazik and Gus Giordano to name just a few. 


Today, Rick is the CEO of Choreography Online, the world's first online choreography market, and both producer and director of the International Online Dance Competition (IODC), and Vice President of Casting at JamarGig, online casting and audition management software. He has been a regular freelance writer for dance blogs and magazines since 2015, and keeps a continual close eye on the artistic scene both at home and abroad in the never ending search for talent, inspiration and opportunities to educate, inform and improve all facets of the dance industry.

Hip-Hop choreographer and teacher Danny Davalos

Danny Davalos: Pre-University Cohorts (ages 15 to 18)

Danny is an internationally known professional dancer, teacher and choreographer and was the owner of O.I.P. Dance Centre, a staple drop-in studio in Toronto for over 10 years. As a dancer, Danny has performed and toured worldwide with top artists such as Rihanna, Ricky Martin, Shakira, and Sean Paul. A few of his greatest performances include those with Danny Fernandes and Shawn Desman on their "Hit & Run European Tour", the Much Music Video Awards, the motion picture "Shall We Dance" with Jennifer Lopez, and the Carnival Choreographers Ball. Danny was also the lead choreographer for a TV series called “Popstars; The One”. Outside his dance career, Danny has directed and produced many theater plays, live performances, music videos, and short films. He was also the TV host and producer of “Get Up and Dance”, on the BPM TV network. Most recently, Danny was an assistant choreographer with the Cirque du Soleil team for the PanAm Opening Ceremonies alongside Luther Brown.
