I-PATH offers graded exams and qualifications across a wide range of performing arts disciplines. Many qualifications are Ofqual-regulated and awarded by RSL Awards, in partnership with I-PATH.
Member teachers receive free access to teaching resources, including syllabuses, programmes of study, demonstration videos and guidance to support teaching and exam preparation.
Exam Formats
Students can take exams in three flexible formats:
I-PATH supports teachers throughout the process, from teaching the grades to booking and assessment.
Graded Examinations and Vocational Graded Examinations
Graded Exams run from Entry Level (Premiere and Debut) through to Grade 8.
From Grade 6 upwards, Ofqual-regulated exams carry UCAS points.
After Grade 5, students may continue through the graded pathway (Grades 6, 7, and 8) or progress to the Vocational Route, which offers broader training through practical exams and a written project.
Vocational levels:
Disciplines Offered (Graded Exams)
Disciplines Offered (Vocational Graded Exams)
Programmes in Development
Unregulated Exams
Teacher-led graded exams where the teacher supports and demonstrates throughout. A final grade is awarded, with reduced exam pressure. (Other exam boards call them Class Awards).
Achievement Awards are flexible, confidence-building assessments that do not follow a set syllabus. Teachers choose and set the performance content, which may be presented as a solo, duet, trio or ensemble. Students are assessed by one of our examiners on their performance, with a focus on positive achievement and progress. Each learner receives an award, certificate and a supportive report form designed to build confidence.
Graded Achievement Awards are a structured alternative to Achievement Awards and a stepping stone towards Graded or Guided Graded Exams. Teachers select a choice of exercises from a single discipline and grade, which the student performs in front of an examiner. While no Pass, Merit or Distinction is awarded, students receive an award, certificate and report form, making this a supportive option for learners who are building confidence within a graded framework.
Informal, teacher-led assessments for very young learners. Assessed by an I-PATH examiner, with a focus on confidence, participation and enjoyment. No grading. Each learner receives an award, certificate and a supportive report form designed to build confidence.
Teachers are not required to submit exam sessions every year to maintain membership.
No additional costs beyond the annual subscription.
